Idle speed solenoid

Post

Hi all,

I currently own a 90" gti cabriolet and have a very irregular idle.
Usual stuff, start from cold fine then after about 30 to 40 seconds the idle gets erratic and will rev and drop until it cuts out.
When the engine is running I have disconnected the idle speed solenoid and there is no change which makes me think the issue lies there.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone have or know of anyone selling a idle speed solenoid ?

Cheers
Stuart

Which type of fuel Injection or carb. as in Digifant or Carb.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Hi briano,

It's still on it's original injection so think it K-jet?
Looked all over the internet and the little box seems to called a few different names depending on where you look.

Its unlikely and I use this as an explanation for any idle issues from start as I had it myself and wasted ages messing about with all sorts until I noticed my warm up regulator wiring was loose and not making a good connection. A quick blast with contact cleaner solved it.

My symptoms were - Cold stars are fine then when it warms up the revs drop and start bouncing and you can hear the valve clicking clicking clicking and it won't stop until you rev it (the valve that clicked is one in your photo) then sometimes it would just stall.

So check that before you start tearing everything else apart like I did! - This is the connector i am talking about;

Glad it worked,

you don't need a new one unless the little metal clip is missing like it is on my one. Just a quick clean should solve it

What job does this box do anyway?
Can the engine run fine without it if the vacuum hoses are blocked off at that end?

My reason for asking is…..
The connection behind it on the injection plenum has snapped off leaving me no wire tail to re solder,  if I could take the other boxs connection with tails it will fit.

snapped wires for blue plug is 5th injector, nothign to do with the idle control valve. the plug is a junior/power timer, used right across the automtive industry so easy to get in scrap yards on just about any car you feel like. if its got to have VW part numbers on mk1-5 will almost all have at least one of these plugs somewhere.

or go on ebay and you'll find them new complete with terminals, just be sure to dig out the wire seals from old sensor if not included (usually are)
