Rough estimate of what price to list my non-working 1992 mk1 golf

Hi,

Huge appoplogies if this is posted in the wrong section. If I need to post it somewhere else, please let me know.

For a long time my Golf has sat on the drive in Manchster and it is time I let it go to someone who is going to give it the time and love it needs. I would rather list it here if possible but I need to include a price in the listing…. and the issue is that I don't really know what would be a fair price.

So the car is a 1992 convertable. It needs a new roof, it doesnt currently have a battery, there is an aftermarket anti-theft device that will need to be removed. The only major changes have been replacing the wheels and I had to replace the entire speedo unit when it stopped functioning.

I loved this car. It breaks my heart to see it go but equally, it breaks my heart to see it in a state on the drive.

It will be sold as a project. It had not  been started for 18 months. It is free from rust. etc etc. The leak in the roof means interior has been damp. I've removed the temp seat covers so that the pictures are honest.

So, is sticking it on the classitifieds the best route? and if so…for how much?

Whats the mileage?

Is this a K-Jet or one of the last with Digipants and cataylst?

Do you still have the Le Castellet wheels?

The Mileage is 126752, I no longer have the original wheels.

I have no idea if this is a K-jet or not. How would I check?

Look for the engine number on the engine block, or sticker in the boot or on the V5.

DX is K-jet, think digi with catayst is 2H but don't quote me

Post a pic of the engine bay

I recon it's got a carburettor and not fuel injection as looking at the picture of the inside I can't see the MFA on the dash or button on the wiper stalk?

Well spotted I think you might be right, I'd assumed being a late one they were all injected and by that stage digipants/catalyst too.

Soo assuming its a 1.8 carb and the shell is rot free but with 130,000 miles, damaged roof, ruined interior (you'll never get the mold stains out of the light coloured material), no MOT, no battery, duff alarm, non running and its coming up to mid winter and Christmas I'd say £1000, £1250 on a good day.

Depends how long you want to wait, stick it on ebay and let the market decide its value or leave for another winter on your drive?

It's worth as much as someone's willing to pay for it

Pick a price you want for it and add a bit and then someone will be a buyer is the best way

ok - thanks for all the advice. Unless there is any interest in anyone in the forum for buying it, it will go on ebay. I'll stick it up for a grand ono and see what happens.

I've had a couple of knock on the door recently from people asking if it was for sale but have not really known what to ask. I get the feeling they just were chancing their arm to see if they could bung me £50 to take it off my hands.

Personally id stick it ebay and let it find its price

There will be people who want a project and will pay decent money for it as they see its worth

In my experience door knockers are chancers hoping to get an old lady sell them it for £100 as they think its just an old car

I reckon that would make at least 2k easily if not more
