Rivage leather heated seats

I've currently got the rivage cream leather interior in my GTI cabby project, quite keen to get the front heated seats wired up, is this an easy task?Also does anyone have the heated seat switch?Interested to see/hear peoples thoughts!

easy way is getting a loom complete with dual controller switch then it;s plug and play

Thanks for the comment! Would that be the wiring loom out of a rivage? That would be the easier option now I think about it, I will have to keep an eye out for a loom  

yes mate out of a Rivage.
Theres plenty of aftermarket kits available though.
But they wouldn't be compatable with the heater pads in your seats. it would mean undoing the covers and replacing them. New ones are like a carbon element,
you could do the rears at the same time..

Cheers bud! I'll see how easy it is to take apart the covers and look to replacing those heater strips, probably worth doing for £20, least I'll know they work then! I like your thinking with the rear seats definitely worth doing if I'm going down that route. 

the problem with the OEM set up is the heater controllers are under the seat cross rail. They end up damp and stop working.
As I'm a purist and Rivage owner I'd stick to OEM otherwise I'd go down the aftermarket route and getting a loom and double wheel controller is nigh on possible, when they come up for sale the double wheel controller was over fifty quid alone.

the original switch position is in the same row as the hazard, fog light, rear window defrost.
however you could install in the centre console for instance.

you can use a mk2 loom, corrado, passat, t4, polo or mk3 even plus a few more.
ebay.de has everything you need. main thing is get a mk1 switch. some looms will require 2 pins swapping over on the switch plug, mk3 for one

The switches go for stupid money, I've seen one on EBay going for £150 !! I guess they are becoming quite hard to get now, but you can get aftermarket ones so I'll keep my eyes out. Thanks for the knowledge, I've got a blank plate on the hazard fog light etc and it would sit in there quite nicely.

MK2 is plug and play, as is corrado. Get on eBay.de you can pick switches and looms up much cheaper

iirc the corrado and others have the controller wheels running to opposite way to the Rivage. ie vertically..
So you'd need one from a classic line

The early corrado, Toledo, passat and I think t4 is horizontal, but they probably wouldn't fit dash anyway. It's the loom I was on about from any of these models

I think the corrado is the same fitment switch size/plug just the wheel orientation.

as i say the early corrado one is sideways, but it wont fit right. they sit proud of the dash rather than mk1 style which are flat so the trim can clip over the top. may fit the hole though and do you as a short term solution



this one is a passat part used on several other models polo, T4, etc. the toledo one is the same shape as amk2 golf switch, but its sideways. I've got both these types in my bits cupboard

years ago when I had ETKA there was two  switches showing, same but orientation was different, so assumed they were the same fitment?

Yes for rado/passat/polo/t4 type switch there are late version as well, same shape and horizontal but wheels are smaller and vertical. Got one of those too lol MK2 golf is vertical. MK1 is specific as it needs to be flush fit on the dash so the trim will fit over it, they are not as rare as people like to make out though usually a couple on eBay.de plus if you have any contacts in canadia they can get em for you as well

Well if you ever get around to selling one that will sit nicely in a Mk1 hit me up rubjonny 😉 I'll keep my eye out on eBay.de for one, it's not a necessity but I've had these seats for 4 years in the car and never thought to wire them up till now so I would quite like to get them working again 

I had been looking at kits, and ran across this:

Switch is similar to VW.  Thought about it but decided not to indulge as I don't have the Arctic Temps here in Georgia for but about 2 weeks a year, but if I was to live in the GWN (Great White North) where winter is 4-5 months long, I probably reconsidered…..  

Years ago I can remember getting in my MG and Freezing my tookus off waiting for the heater to work?
I had the original Bill of sale for my 58 Bug-Eye (Frog-eye)  and Austin /British Leyland considered the heater as Optional Equipment screwy I know….
Stuffing Towels in the back of the top to plug air, Taping the Windows to the top for log drives, removing the Radiator fan blades and blocking off the Radiator on those -20 degree mornings… Wearing wool shirt, sweater, and parka's with Mucklucks… To drive to work… Yep, fun fun fun….

Heated seats would of made my early days of motoring so much more enjoyable…..
