The wheels that VW had as an accessory were these BBS Seral, but the holes were oval, whereas the ones you have here appear to be round, I can't ever remember seeing these in the 80's as a VAG Wheel.

Here is the Seral

I put a pic of the wheels I thought they were by mistake as only saw them very briefly.

They are the BBS Seral that RichardHall posted a picture of

The Seral's went an official factory order option as far as I can remember, but they were an official dealer fit accessory and appeared in the VAG brochures. There was even a copy plastic wheel trim made by Hella

I went to see a 1.6 x plate about 15 years ago, it was rotten really bad state, it had these bbs on though. Guy wanted a load for the car. Even the tailpipe had dropped to the floor the car was so bad.

I've seen these on early mk2 polos.  Maybe they were an option from them rather than golf?  :ninja:

I've just been offered some mk1 Golf "pepper pot" alloys which apparently were an option from VW. I've not picked them up yet but reckon they maybe these. Just been googling and come across this thread!

Wonder if they maight be these though as Kamei did quite a few dealer aftermarket bits and fitted these wheels to its show cars, not sure if they made them though or were ATS ones rebranded?  These do fit the description better of pepper pot rather than the Seral wheels.

Ooh. I hope we identify them one day. I search eBay every day for 4x100 to see if I see them for sale. Just need to find the name and then I can really search for them.

Thanks for keeping the hunt alive and keep me posted.

I shall also search for Kam wheels and see what comes up.

I might find out tomorrow what I've been offered. Apparently they were fitted to the MK1 from new in a dealership in Germany and then brought to the UK. The car is now dead but the wheels survived. I got to hear about them when I got in a random conversation a couple of years ago at a local classic car meet. The guy came in a 1920's blower Bentley and I was in my Golf. He loved the Golf as it bought back the memories of his dad's and then he said about the wheels he reckoned he still had. He literally emailed me today to say he'd found them if I was still interested. Id forgotten all about them and the fact we'd exchanged details at the time. He also reckons he has a pre production RHD MK2 16V Golf press car in his collection of cars that needs restoring. I might tap him up for that at some point.

Yomp can't wait to see what turns up!  Plus an early 16v MK2 must be one to go for especially if it happened to be in iconic Monza Blue
