Is it just me ?

Not the best source of knowledge I know but it tend to watch eBay every couple of weeks and simple search mk1 golf.  There are posts of listing but it seems to me this winter prices have really jumped

Both caddy’s and tin tops seem to live around the 10k mark now.

This is about a 3k jump from about 2 years back and even more on the caddy’s which seem to be more on par pricing wise with a tin top than ever before.

I can honestly say that if I hadn’t got mine 3 years ago I would have never been able to afford one again (this is my 4th).

I feel lucky to have mine but sad for people who would like one, especially those who would be revisiting a 20 or 30 year old dream. For those who own one and are just buying and selling then I am not so upset for.

I guess the MK2 is now the affordable vw experience entry point, which let’s be honest is a great car and much more refined but it does not give me personally any where near the same feeling of driving the much more simple and basic mk1.

Let’s hope we can still afford to stay in the game for a long time to come and enjoy our little gems

The issue being though a fit sale price isn’t necessarily the selling price. The old Karmen, Karman, Karman limited edition always crops up.
So they say it’s ultra rare cos it’s got the Karmann wing badges on it.

So I remind them all Cabbies would of had them so it’s bs they’re spouting lol.
Rivage and Sportline prices are higher though.

Just sneering at anyone who doesn't own arivage or has modified their golf . I own an auto cabby with a manual choke…was going to ask for a trade in on the Rivage but maybe that would be childish

Yep, you can find them on Craigslist over here and you can use one of the on-line search tools to search all of craigslist.

We have the autotrader.com and kbb.com.  Forums on the WWW like here and the VWvortex, Thesamba.com are good places, you are more likely to get accuracy on the Fan site than a general listing, and reading some of the craiglists adds are hilarious.

Just looked up when I bought my 93, and it was only 1500 USD.

Sounds about right for this side of things…
I was fortunate enough to pick up my '77 tin top two years ago for under $2,500cdn… (after some quick math, that would be £1.43 and a half-pint of bitter.   )

It's no wonder we are starting to see Mk1's getting exported overseas.

The thing is he makes some very good points. Probably not best put down in words though.

It depends on what your after and how big your pocket is.

Like I wrote earlier the Rivages etc command more money.
But yet I know of one Rivage that was standard the owner set out to bastardise it. Anything that makes it a Rivage has been removed and they want ridiculous money for it.
The modified crew like it but it’s too much money. The purists hate it because what’s been done could of been done to a lower value spec car. It’s been devalued.

It’s horses for courses I’ve had 2 clippers and my first was an auto.

Loved that car.

The later run out models are more desirable for various reasons.
You can still buy a cab at reasonable money.
It’s about what you can afford or can do yourself.
Buy a tired one, restore, modify etc.
Or pay more for a restored car.
Whatever floats your boat.

The Roof job isn’t any better than what I do either. Hard to tell from his photos. Or lack of photos of the roof. So not sure how you can call it exquisite.  My Hoods are OEM Harttz Material and  sonnenland  Material is just the weave pattern of the outer fabric.
To be honest most people wouldn’t know the difference.

I agree cohort there are some good points but it's the tone of it I hate. Personally I don't like single headlight conversions, single wiper Gris or debadged cars. But I'm happy to share a forum with people who do. The new roof on mine was one of the reasons I bought it…not sure it would be up  to your standard tho.
