Must Have Upgrades?

What are some bolt-on/simple modifications that every MK1 owner should do?

I'm talking about strut braces, big brakes, exhaust etc…

And what gets the best results?

My suggestion…

1. Lower strut brace = Stiffens upfront end, I would not bother with upper front brace and rear brace only any use for looks or a track car.

2. Braided brake hoses and change the brake fluid at least every 3 years also check and adjusted rear drums every year  = Gets rid off soft brake pedal.

Bigger servo and master cylinder. Ditto lower strut brace, but I also found a difference with upper too. Then the sky is the limit, as you'll find out at any show. 

Lower front brace and decent suspension.
Far to many people buy kack then wonder why the handling is bonk.

Good Tyres - that are less than six years old!

Good quality and very loud stereo system

Means you can't hear all the squeeks and rattles that drive me nuts!  Oh and change the rear wheel bearings each year just before the MOT as 'just nip up the nut' is nit a torque setting and I always seem to be too loose or too tight and wreck rear wheel bearings in a year!

Changed the rear drums and bearing not so long ago after i found that the previous owner had super glued a lug bolt into a stripped hole

Not sure what you mean? Do you have a link to someone that has done it?

Sure I have a link or Three, I have done it two 3 Cabriolets, and one 81 Diesel Rabbit/Golf 4 door LS

How I did it on my Cabriolets, including the newer 3 relay diagram that allows for the HI-and-Low to be on at the same time at the bottom.

There are Ready made units available on E-of-Bay, but they are 2 relay type usually….

You know that subtle transition of going from hi-to-low when both elements are on…. that is the secret of the 3rd relay.

You will increase the voltage and current to your headlights.  Mine went from 11.5V to 13.5V……. I used new ceramic sockets for the bulb because I was going to upgrade to the 3rd relay, and I knew the socket would get hotter….
