Mk4 Golf Gamma Radio

Just wondering if a Mk4 Golf Gamma  Radio can be wired into a Mk1 as my original radio has failed, otherwise I was thinking of getting an earlier generation Gamma unit?

Yep, should go. You'll either need to double wire the battery feed to the ignition feed or add a later cabriolet ignition housing thingy (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ignition-Starter-Switch-Fits-AUDI-80-90-Coupe-B2-VW-Passat-1-0-2-4L-1950-1996/132052097610?fits=Car+Make%3AVW&epid=1416883846&hash=item1ebeeb1a4a:g:o34AAOSwcwdcXLT2:rk:4:pf:1&frcectupt=true ) then run an extra wire from the terminal that's not used to the radio. This then becomes an ignition live
