MK1 cab: GTI factory suspension lower than clipper?

Post

Hello, as per the title - I’ve heard tin top GTIs rolled out of the factory with lower standard suspension than non-GTI models. Is the same true for the cabriolet?
Thanks,
Ben

Don't think there is any difference in ride height of the cabriolets, they have different springs to tin tops as they are heavier but I guess most have had the shocks and springs changed at some point in there life as the newest cabriolet will be 30 years old.

The bump stops and dust covers are also missing, the top one on the picture has a little bit of bump stops left…

The strut housing look to be in good condition, are you keeping / re using them for a new set up as the front front shocks are just a insert?

Clean, sand and re paint they will look like new.

Yes I noticed that, I'm pretty sure that didn't help with the crashing about

I'm doing a full refurb of the suspension and am replacing the whole lot, so these will end up on the spares shelf.

I think the GTI cabbies are also 40mm lower than non-GTIs - anyone that can confirm?

Not sure about the earlier ones but by the time it was 1987 and Clipper vs GTi onwards I believe they were the same except the GTI had fuel injection, extra 22hp, MFA and 14 inch alloys.

All for a whopping extra 25% cost.

A MK2 16v was the same or cheaper £

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Looking at the some of the brochures they seem to be the same height between the carb and GTi cabriolets.

I've got a 91 cabby, with snowflakes and 15mm spacers on the back and my car is so bouncy. Only bought it recently but need to change my springs.

I've been looking at the JOM Blue Line Coilover Kit. Does anyone know if these are any good?
