Havnt posted in a while..I have a 1992 Sportline 
Was wondering if anyone knew how I can repair the crystal display as two segments on the display have disappeared!!!

If you're unsure or not done it before, take loads of pics, especially when disassembling the cluster.

Personally for me, the worst part is removing the stereo. Its probably an aftermarket, and the wires are probably too short making it super-awkward!

I'd recommend disconnecting the battery first, on some of the switches you'll need to lever off the connector and with the power off, you can safely do this with a screwdriver. And I think the separate spade for the hazard switch is permanent live, too.

Once you're onto the cluster, be gentle because the sheet with the electrical tracks is delicate. It all comes apart fairly logically, though.

Its worth cleaning up all the electrical connections and checking/replacing the illumination bulbs while you're in there (some people replace the 1.2W bulbs with 2W for an upgrade).

When putting the instruments back in check the bulbs and everything works before fixings it all in place, the bubs sometimes needs a little wiggle to make a good contact.
Nothing worst then putting it all back together and you have no light on your speedo…

That is probably why I always replace the lamps when I first remove it….

Also on the Hazards switch there is a itty-bitty blue and black wire that has Live voltage on it….  With the battery disconnected your ok, but I strongly suggest that you use a tad of heat shrink over the plug to insulate it, as if it grounds out to the frame (which it always does because that even tinyier brown earth wire will short it) causes f19 to blow, thus when you go back and re-assemble everything you find that your turns only glow and don't blink.

Still havnt replaced MFA yet … sad as I am!
Do I have to take off the steering wheel prior to removal of instrument cluster or can it be done with wheel left even if it's harder…..thanks 

I left the steering wheel on the car when I removed my instrument cluster and there's plenty of room to get it out.

There's plenty of room, if you don't want to go to the hassle of removing the steering wheel.

I've done it a few times WITH removing the wheel, for easier access and because taking the steering wheel off isn't that big a job - certainly compared to more modern cars with the Russian roulette of the airbag disconnection (I know….it won't blow, its an internet myth!).

In my cluster there are 3 bulbs. These are the ones I bought.

I bought 4 just in case!
Interestingly, ETKA lists 2 x 2w bulbs and 1 x 1.2w bulbs. I've just gone with 3 x 2w.

Make sure you disconnect the earth lead from the battery before removing the instrument cluster.
Once you are ready to put it back get the instrument cluster in the hole and connect up the leads and light switch, connect the battery and check the new bulbs work as sometimes they need a little wiggle to get a good contact.
