Long term storage, costs and ideas?

Post

Due to a self build project we running out of time, space and £ to enjoy the Mk1s :(I also sometimes work away during the week, the Cabrio has prob only covered a few hundred miles each year for the previous 2 years for example.  It's getting difficult to justify keep them MOT'd, taxed, serviced etc

However I don't really want to sell the Golfs as I know I will eventually regret it, so I'm thinking of long term storage.

Has anyone got experience of storing a car away from your home? How did you find the storage, how much £ a month is the cost (looking in South Yorks, West Yorks or East Lancs)

I think it would for a couple of years and then I get my life and Golfs back.

Try putting an advert in the local free mags. I also had success with with Gumtree, again free so nothing lost. Where i live you can easily pay up to £80 a month for storage. I did however find space through a friend and pay only a very small amount each month.

£80 month soon mounts up 💰💰💰💰. car port or wooden shed reasonably cheap to build if you can squeze one in.

How about an outdoor carcoon and they will be in really good condition when you take them out.

I couldn't justify paying for storage as like been said it really mounts up.

You can pay 200-400 for outside storage and park on a caravan storage site but my caravan got damaged on one and got nothing in way of compensation.

Not really got enough room for a car port or outdoor carcoon and £80x2 a month is a bit rich, esp as the research I have done is that most places expect you to insure the car yourself. This then defeats one of the reasons to store them.

There's a caravan storage place not far way that I think has some kept indoors (large modern farm buildings), will try and see how much £ they are on.

An old friend uses shipping containers to store his old Model T's, will be catching up with him over Christmas so will see if he has any spare space at mates rates.
