Locating the original style number plates?

I was wondering is there a way to find how the original number plates looked like from the car dealership? I was looking through the history for the vehicle and came across it, looking to change the number plates and put two and two together…..

The style that took my notice was pre 2001 (a)…..would they still be considered as illegal or illegal considering the car is from 1989 technically falls under the pre bucket…..penny for you thoughts?
