LED headlights - it's a no-no now

Post

Just read in some online news that LED upgrades to headlamps will now result in an MOT failure.
MOT rules were changed on Jan 1st. Section 4.1.4 (Headlamps - compliance with requirements) now includes the following:
"Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp."

So, a word of warning for anyone running LED 'bulbs'.

What a way to go for increased driver vis in the dark.
Easy, just keep a spare set of halogens, and swap them out before the MOT.

MOT over there seems to not care about improvements to the Vehicle to increase safety.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Think the issue is lights that do not conform to U.K. requirements of beam angle etc and blinding oncoming drivers.

Shame there can’t be some sort of approvals method though that allows them to be used.
