I'm going to buy myself a small Motorbike tomorrow.

And I'm in the dog house again, so what's new!

Yes you read the title correctly "I'm going to buy myself a small Motorbike tomorrow."
And I'm in the dog house again, so what's new!

Well I'll try to write this in a 1,000 words or less I promise but no guarantees ok. ;)

First of all for those of you who don't know me (is that really possible!) but if there is someone. I've just been forced to retire at the age of 54 due to poor health, in fact since the end of February 2018. I've always been very, very active my entire life but unfortunately my health has brought me to a crunching stop.
Hardly in 1st gear.

I had plans but all of that has sadly been torn apart and I can't really do much light stuff on any of the cars I own let alone more involved stuff anyhow.

I was sat at home a couple of weeks ago seeing that spring was in the air getting warmer it got me thinking. So one thing lead to another and my bored brain started think about a little bike. Because I used to have bikes and a lot of them when I was younger.

I had my first bike at the age of 9 and was able to learn on a small network of private roads. So as the years rolled by bikes went way down the list of priorities because of this and that. For the last 30 years I've not really owned one to speak of but I do have a Classic but that's a story for another day.

Well I've been looking at buying myself a small bike that looks and feels like a big one but with out the power and weight.

Should mention.
I do like to include and share with my family my plans, ideas and everything in general because we are a little team and it matters.

So when I mentioned about buying a bike and only a 125 at that my wife became a can of dry ice (if you've handled dry ice ❄ you'll understand what I mean), my 20 year old son is sitting on the fence but if you look a little closer both his legs are dangling on Mummies side.

I explained my reasoning that I'd like to have an option of jumping on a bike sometimes just to drive around short distances shopping or whatever it's not important instead of getting the Mk1 out from the underground garage or the Mk6 which my wife is using more and more.

Well I was so surprised at the negative reaction that I almost convinced myself it's was the amount of money that I was planning to spend €2,500.

So then thinking that was the key problem I started to look and find used bikes for less but the reaction was the same. So late last night I found myself looking a a bike that was in no way what I wanted for €850,00.

Then finally this morning I went back to the bikes that I thought would make my family happy and looked for a minute or two and I just said to myself.
"Stop" because as much as I love my family I believe that while I am officially of sound mind and body, I can choose.

So tomorrow I have an appointment with a large motorcycle multi dealership to look at two bikes.

A Suzuki Burgman.

Suzuki_Burgman_125_Executive_White_02_kl.jpg

Or the Honda Forza

20180419_102941.jpg

So I'm going to buy one of them tomorrow new, the Suzuki is just over €4,000 and the Honda is just over €5,000 on the road.

Which ever I choose I will be doing something for myself and should my health take a sudden turn for the worse which is possible then everything I own goes to my family because although I don't own a property (way to expensive in Vienna) I have not one dept.

When it comes to transport.
My wife gets the love of her life the fully loaded Mk6 Highline, TSI, DSG, 7 speed, Tiptronic, Estate and my Son gets his toys from me so the Mk1, my 1973 Honda ST 70 with 3,500 miles from new and whichever 125 from those two I buy tomorrow.

Why did I write all this drivel?
Well I'm fairly sure I'm not the only man or woman who's faced and experienced this type of situation.

Advice?
Well I have none to be honest but I will say this.
What I do tomorrow will be the first time in my life in all honesty that I'm just saying no, no compromise. :)

I will come first once in my life and thanks for reading this so enough said! ;)

I'm sure I've got more typos then Mo Salah can score in a season for Liverpool FC but age and technology don't go that well together trust me because for the 25 years my work was in computer systems!

Over my dead body leaps into my head when I read that! ;)

The best part is that my wife has not been talking to me since I said I was going to look at a new small Motorbike.

She doesn't even know yet I've bought one.
I've hidden the brochure and invoice and my son doesn't even know yet for sure.

So if she's giving me the silent treatment know what will she be like when she finds out?

Heaven, what bliss! ;)

Na not my thing really but as my wife hates and despises the idea so much that she's not talking to me. She's giving me a mega cold shoulder and she doesn't know I've bought one yet! ;)

I'm thinking about breaking my promise I made to my late father when I was in my early teens and that was to never have a tattoo.

I'm 54 now and retired but just to give my wife a bit back I'm thinking of having her name tattood on my ärse so that every time I sit on it she can kiss it! ;)

Thought appeals.

Oh yes my friend, "Gravity Bites" and even more as we age.
Not that it's a get out of jail card for free but I'll only be riding it around my local area so no more than a 10 mile radius and most of that is low speed countryside.

And for sure it's more likely to happen just outside your front door than anywhere else.

I've witnessed that with my own eyes when my best school friend was killed just 500 yards from his home.

It was a Saturday morning in the summer when we dicided to go to the coffee shop down in the village 700 yards away.
Drink a coke, play table football and hopefully chat up a girl or two!

I'd been having problems starting my bike that morning and he was off shortly before me but by only ten seconds or so.

As he got to the bottom of the hill the road flattens out 30mph limit there's a cross roads but he has absolute right of way as it's a main road. I was half way down buy then.

As he slowed down to the limit an old man driving a Jaguar xjs (I think) came out of the junction to his left without stopping at the give way sign and Kevin bless him he had absolutely no chance and inpacted the B pillar of the Jag.

Well you can guess the rest I suppose. :(

What made it even worth was his mum and dad came down the road 10 minutes after it happened (they were going shopping). They saw me standing in the middle of the road because the road was closed by the police. When they saw me they ran down and asked what was wrong, was I ok?

Well I had to tell them it was Kevin so they went over and once the ambulance arrived they went with him but sadly he passed away shortly after arriving at hospital.

The owner of the Jag had his license taken away for causing a death by dangerous driving.

Then about 18 months later my cousin was killed on his bike and that did for me.

Shortly after my Cousin died I sold my 3 bikes and said to my dad "söd that for a game of soldiers" and I turned my focus to my cars until now.

I was 19 at the time and now I'm 54, you do the maths! ;)

But on a cheerful note I still own a Honda ST70, 1973, met blue with 3,500 miles from new.

Mine is exactly the same as this one in every way but mine has the chrome carrier rack from Honda as well.

Soon I'll be able to ride one of these Honda's.

Clearly Brian you've not been paying attention to the forum and in particular last years AGM where you find a handful of photos and a little write up about yours truly.

The funny thing is other than this one is, the last time I was written about was for a speeding citation.

That was my first and only one 35 years old! ;)
