Settling In
I've got a 91 clipper 1.8 carb. Recently converted to manual choke Webber. I love it and I've had it for a long time. I picked up a complete Gti engine last yeah with gearbox. Rads. Ecu etc. As a spare because it was cheap and local to me.
I rebuilt the head on my engine 5 years ago and it runs beautifully. But when I did that I also changed the piston rings and pins… despite this number 4 cylinder has slight piston slop and a knock but it still runs and revs. I realise it won't go for ever though. The engine does have 175k.
So here's my question
Do I dump the gti engine in its entirety in the clipper (after an overhaul) or do I overhaul the Gti block and stick the clipper head back on? What would you guys do?
I don't want to pull the engine out and overhaul the block on my engine because it'll be off the road for too long. I'd rather do the gti block… then I can have it all done and back in in a weekend.
Cheers
Greg
