Electric Roof
Hi everyone,
Silly question, to put the roof up and down (electric 92) have to make sure the car is off and the key is in the ignition and not turned, is it possible to change the wiring so the roof operates whilst the car is idle ?
If so what needs to happen to make the magic happen..

Doesn't sound like a good idea.

The reason it’s like this so it can’t be operated when the car is moving and rip the roof off.

Don't forget that the parking brake as to be fully engaged.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Thanks guys
But you misunderstood me, hence why I mentioned "idle" - I don't want the roof to come down when I am moving heaven forbid.
the scenario is if I am driving down a long road and I want the roof down, I would have to pull over in a layby and then turn the engine off - when it would be simplistic if I could pull into a layby with the engine still running and idle, roof down and off - like the other convertibles in the Golf in that the Mk6 I had could be taken down but had to be under 20 miles an hour, but it was just an option…
Didn't realise the parking brake had to be fully engaged ?? thats my next experiment …..cheers

Yeah, you can wire it to work however you want really. Mine came with it working all the time (I think previous owner did that by mistake).
It won't open if you accidentally press the button - the pump just whines a bit. Probably not great for it.
My guess on the original wiring would be power comes from SU (black/red or brown/red?) That's power with key in.
Mine has a red wire for the hood (not the thick main power via the thermal fuse). If that is powered, the hood works.
There is also a black wire. Never connected in mine. I wonder if this is meant to go to switch lived to tell the hood to power off (total guess). Or maybe something to do with the handbrake? Would need to look at the wiring diagram.

Whip

Noun - Car
When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the whip. The term has now been generalised to classify any automobile.
