Cabby Front seat bases

Post

Hi all,

I've just had my seats retrimmed and the trimmer has swapped over the seat bases due to a repair I believe (passenger base is now the drivers base and vice versa).

They are all ready to be fit back into the car but I was just wondering if there is a difference between the passengers and drivers bolsters on each seat base, before I do so? I.e is there a specific left or right to bolsters (to me they look slightly different).

If so, I would be looking to swap them back over before refitting to the car…

Hope that makes sense

Many thanks!

It’s common to swap the seat base foam cushion along with the cover.
The reason is bolster collapse.
The drivers side gets mashed as you get in the car and out again.
Swapping them means the passenger inner bolster becomes the drivers outer and vice versa.
When I do these I just buy new foam cushions.
Repairs don’t last as the original foam is now over 30 years old is generally breaking down.

Obviously you can’t swap the metal bases as the seat belt clip would be on the wrong side lol.

Both cushions are the same part number and on later cabs there the same as the MK2

Haha yeah thankfully he has made sure the seat belt clips are on the correct sides. That would have been a massive error!

So in terms of the bolsters there is no real difference in the shape for the inner or outer. At least now it's been swapped it will give it some more longevity and a break from use from driver entering and exiting.

Thanks again for all the help!

On late cabbies the seat foam cushion has moulded one piece base with bolsters all in one.
Some early tin top cars and some late ones like the Sportline which had different Recarro seats had separate bolsters you could replace.
