Air compressor

Post

I bought an air compressor a while ago and still not wired it up due to work commitments. Now I have free time like a lot of people I’m getting round to it.

It needs to run of the same wiring that feeds the cooker which I believe is 32amps. Has anyone got a compressor at home like this and what and where can I get the cable and the 3 pin connectors from

Thanks

Hi Wilko,
Has the compressor got a lead on it at the moment?
Or a sticker on it anywhere showing the motor size/details etc?
Normally unless it is industrial sized compressor then it will have your standard household plug top on it. Fuse rated at 13a

Just had a look on the spec, it's a pretty decent size compressor and your right that needs a 30a supply. Is your mains board nearby? Or is your cooker supply close by is that why you want to use the cooker supply?
I'm a spark so can talk you through it but will need a bit more info.

No mains board is other side of the house however the spare cooker outlet is at the rear and roughly 20m away from compressor. Thought of cooker supply as the wiring is already there just covered by a plastic cover. Would these be any good

Yes they look spot on mate. As long as the cable feeding your cooker outlet is 6mm twin and earth cable and Is on a 32a breaker/fuse. There should be a outlet for the oven (usually inside the oven space) that you can connect directly into to run it.

It just means the outlet is rated up to 45a so its fine. That's sound to connect on to as long as it's on a 32a breaker/fuse at the board (it should be)
You can come straight out of that with a cable directly into the switch unit you showed me and the plug you get with goes on to the flex cable thats on the compressor. Plug in and away you go.

Cheers bud very grateful. One more question I have a bit of cable left over from the cooker installation will that cable be ok to go from the outlet to the wall mounted box

Yes mate that's perfect. Saves you buying the other lead too. Just take the cooker cable you have, run it direct from the outlet in the kitchen into the switch box with socket. You could mount that above the compressor and the just put the Included blue plug on the compressor flex and your done 👍🏼
Does the cooker outlet have a cover for it?

Yea it does I only have small amount of cable to so the socket will stay in kitchen as compressor is in garage 20m away. Cheers for all this mate appreciate it
