Brake drums

Got some shiny new drums to fit when I’ve re-built up the back axle and wondered if the general consensus is to paint them to protect???

Just bought 1.5 Ltrs of Clear so could de-grease and clear for protection?? Already re-furbed the backing plates in a few coats of black hammerite

Use a good quality Caliper or Hi-Temp Paint.  After removing all the Cosmoline off the things, hard to get paint to stick to the stuff.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Now the choice is accent colour like red on a black car

Highlight colour like yellow

Colour match the the main car

OEM type colour Black or silver

Or

Colour match to your wheels.

For me as they are drums and not some special callipers etc I would probably go black but equally I would agonised over it for weeks and then wish I had done something different no matter what I chose

Black (smoothe)hammerite will be fine

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I painted mine in VHT black as well as the centres of the front discs, even went to the trouble of using a black enamel paint in the edges of the discs to stop corrosion

Cheers all…. think as the back plates will be black hammerite….. will do the fronts in a high temp black too!

Like the touch of the edges of the discs treated too… will do that when re-building the front struts!!
