Ive just bought a 1982 GTI and wondered if I can run it on standard fuel or will it need any additives etc?
Thanks

Until September you are fine. After that use super unleaded as the ethanol content in normal fuel will rise from 5% to 10%.
Super unleaded will be 5% for another 5 years. Literally just been reading about while the Portugal game is on.
There are additives that help stabilise the higher ethanol fuel but my approach will be use the super unleaded.

No need for lead additives with water cooled VWs engines from approx 1974 as they all have hardened valves and seats.
The GTi runs better on super unleaded as you need to retard the timing by about 6 degrees to run normal unleaded.
You need to find out what the previous owner set the car up for or just set the timing by to book and use super unleaded.
