a while ago i got to get back a car i had in early eighties , and i know that his first registration was with uk plates.
i have the chassis number and the name of the first owner, can somebody please tell me how, with this information i can know the original plates?

Hi Paulo,

Welcome to the forum.

I would imagine if you stand any chance at all of finding out the information you require, you will need to contact the english DVLA (Driver and Vehicle license agency)
Error - What do you need to contact DVLA about? - Contact DVLA - GOV.UK

This link will be a start, but you might need to contact them by phone or by writing to them to see if they have the information you require.

Hope this helps,
Mike.

A very warm welcome to the club Paulo!   :)

As above, not sure what you might get from them but it is well worth trying.

So now you've said hello how about showing us your MK1?

Just a few photos and tell us a little more about the history of the car!

thank you for your kind words

as i am not shure yet wich car it is, i was trying thru dlva to get the first documents concerning the car, since vw arquives are very scarce.

cert vw sem nunero de quadro.jpg

in my vw museum certificate misses a lot of information such as date of manufactoring, country destination and has an odd extra , the M912 , so it makes me think if this was not a different car, as i known that it was bought by a frien of my father on the 76 paris ehxibit.
it also had been mine in the eighties
before i start i want to be sure of what i am starting .
thanks

Paulo,

The document you have is basic but it just a nice thing to have framed.  ;)

But you can find out for yourself all the details about when the car was produced and the extras.

You have to play detective a little and search on line for a VW VIN Decoder first.

The codes for the extras can also be done but for you unfortunately it is the clubs annual meeting this weekend with well over 100 MK1's on show and it's starting now.

But when it's over we will have a number of members here that are very smart with such details and they will be able to help.

That's of course when they've got over the hangovers!

Maybe try VW Uk?
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/contact-us

They might be able to trace it to the dealer it was sold through and the dealer might still have the details of regestrations from 1976, but it is a bit of a long shot…

Why do you need to have the UK registration number anyway as golf Cabrio  says, you can get a lot from the VIN number…. or is it just to get the full history of the car?

Hi
the car was not sold by any uk vw dealer, it was boght in the 1976 paris show (it was the ehxibit car) and right away registred with uk plates, so i think it has to be some associaton or club that has acess to old licence plates. do you have anty clue?
thanks

Hi Paulo,

Sorry, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to suggest.
Have you contacted the organisers of the Paris motor show? They might be able to help you track who would have the information, however, I suspect they may just point you in the direction of Volkswagen.

It maybe that it's just been too long and records of the time have been discarded?

Sorry
Mike.

The best way to contact dvla, you can search for customer service number on the Internet. Or you can try wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver_and_Vehicle_Licensing_Agency
Here you will get complete information about DVLA

I am also agree with Mike. He provided 2 URLs Error - What do you need to contact DVLA about? - Contact DVLA - GOV.UK
http://customerservicecontactnumber.co.uk/dvla/
Here anyone can find the important information of DVLA  customer support. If you required complete history and other customer support number here I have found a website you can go through http://phonenumbercustomerservice.co.uk/dvla/
