I've just bought over 30 club gti  rabbit magazine's , flicking through them brings back good memories from the club gti days and also a few mk1's  which I'm sure are still around today , including Drew's old red mk1
..so who else started out as a club gti member ?

Yep and me. I remember sending in a piece and pictures about my campaign when I first got it. Rabbit was in  black and white in those days (!). Still, it was 20 years ago……..! Used to look forward to the magazine arriving every time. That and Volkswagen Audi driver mag. I've still got loads at home somewhere dating that far back and loads of pics of GTI internationals from back then. I seem to recall that mk2 big bumpers on mk1s were all the rage at the time. They did actually look quite good!

I still have a few, used to help out put them together when it was just a set of typed pages, then it went big time and produced at printers. But we still stapled them together and addressed the envelopes!

Me too.

I was only looking for mine in the loft yesterday.. Along with Golf+.

I had my first club stand with North Lancs group at All Types, May 2004.
I think that it was that year that I met Dj Ev at a local meet. The year was full of ups and downs!!!

Ah GTI Internationals@TRL those were the days where things were simple an uncomplicated mk1 &mk2 s row on row and an auto jumble with actual breakers bringing an sellin 16v conversions On pallets good old simple conversions  I know time moves on but IMHO the shows were  far more enjoyable then .. Oh an on a final note Ian Birches first twin engined VR ahhhh good times…

Ahhh, the good old days…..

I have as already mentioned copies of the first Edition of Golf+,Golf Extreme,PVW and issues of Rabbit,VW Audi Driver and VW Driver that go back to 86..I took a load of them to GTI International to sell but thats another story….Plus going way back I have copies of the "GTI Drivers Club quarterly mag (pre Club GTI)…I got [ictures from every GTi International from 1988 to 2000 and foreign shows from 1994 to 2006

For all those old enough to remember, these were the better years of the scene without doubt. For those not old enough,I would advise doing some research of what was cool and checking how the scene has changed immensely since then when it was not about how much joey you could throw at your car but the subtle mods that you had to look hard to see and waiting a whole year for the next show !!!…:lol:I may even build a page dedicated to this as I got so much info and sure theres enough people who could and would contribute.

Yep and still a Club GTI member, it is where it all started for me in about 1995, although I got my mk1 in 1993.
Still have all my copies of the Rabbit mags - loved it when one dropped through the door :-)
I pop over to their site now and again - but it seems to have become very unfriendly, although I believe a new team has come in to bring the vibe as to what it should be about - the cars !!

Cheers,
Ade

Hya  totally agree with you gents that vibe that feel is not there.. whats happened with the times?? THose mags  Rbbit.PVw.FAstcar to name afew early days basjc black n white. then col pics made it on the secene.. iam the very same going back to the start of the 90s.it was a family feel to things now maybe its so so huge its lost that cosy connection!!  i used to go to the park royal meets etc.. then  i drifted away coz of the unfriendliness.. now 25 yrs on.. here we are… for me if i see or hear a MK1 on the st or parked up. i always congrat  the owner or driver on their motor… its the love. passion for the MK1 appreciation for the car that started what we have to date… this site the info the members on here are top!!! lets keep that dream alive.  Enjoy All….

Campaignjerry, I agree totally. Back then there were just mk1s and 2s, with some sciroccos, Audis all standard or sometimes wildly modded. Good days. I think you should start a page. I've got loads of photos as well. Just taking the time to scan and upload them all is the problem!

Just had a flick through one of the old black and white copies.  The adverts are brilliant.  Gti engineering engine conversions,  bbs wheels etc.

Late to the party! I'm sure some are on the '90s Show Scene Group on Facebook? It's full of great pics of old.

Club GTI is still pretty unfriendly, even after all the changes. Various highly knowledgeable members have been marginalised as the Committee run it according to their personal whims of who they like and who they don't.

I have spare copies of Rabbit which I'm happy to post out for those trying to find issues with their cars featured. Issue numbers needed though!

It's a shame when folk are excluded cause of personal tastes Chris_Eyre .
Committees are meant to be in it to help people, not ego up. Glad this club has decent folk.
