Tiltissorie? Rottissorie?

I thought this may be of some interest to you strange hatchback/cabby owners…

I'm doing a resto on my caddy and knocked these rollover stands up. I'm sure they would (or very easily could) fit a car shell too

I made these from 50 mm box steel and cost about ?70 in materials alone.

They are welded up so the caddy is held slightly over centre - please note I messed up the angle cuts on the bottom of the stand, and the brace is in a different place to drawings - please follow the drawings (I didn't!)

I bolted the mounts up to the car, then offered the front frame up so there would be just enough gap between bottom of stand and wing (about 1" with a mate stood holding a 1" plank against the car.) I then tacked it in place and then did the same to the back frame.

I unbolted the lot and welded it all up at work good and solid.

To lift the car I just slide a bar in one of the frames to make a lever and lift - I can do it on my own no probs.
To drop it down again, you need two as its impossible to push the car from one side and hold it on the ther side on your own.

It is dead easy with two though.

These frames are now surplus to requirements if anyone is interested? Or I'm happy to help with confusion over the plans.

Cheers!

Well the front one would fit the cab and tintop, the rear would only need to be slighty modified for the A1 shell.

Good work and thanks for the posting.

Is what I thought but wasn't 100%   :?

Makes working on the shell SO EASY, one person operation, just lift it up and work in comfort without weld/rust/sh%te/shutz falling on you as you work.

Thanks for the drawings and measures.
I was going to make one like this:

But yours looks a little bit easier to tip over, but I need some wheels on it so I can get the car to the sandblaster.

When the car is tipped over, how high is it over the ground?

It sit's about 1" from the deck - but it would depend on where the brackets for the bumper mounts were welded on the frame.

The higher you make it, the more unstable and harder to roll it becomes.

Wheels would be doable - I think one of the guys on the caddy forum that has made from my plans has fitted wheels.
