silver rubbed off badges - any ideas?

Hello everyone,

- First post since we moved from the campaign register!   -

This may have come up in the past, but does anyone know how to replace the silver trim on the black plastic badges on the back of the campaign? Paint? If so, what kind/shade?

I realise that replacements might be the best option, but i cant find any!
The ones i've found on ebay are all suffering from the same problem as mine.

Also, without wanting to sound like a complete idiot (and without wanting to damage my badges) how are they dettached/reattached to the bootlid?

Just want the best for my Mk1!!

Cheers guys

Lahsa1,

There was a post on the Campaign registor about this.  I've used artists masking fluid and plsticote chrome paint to good effrect.

Hatch badges will just pop off if originals - copies tend to be stuck on.

I had the same problem when I bought my Mk1 Campagin. I ordered some from http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk1/badges.html

The badge set is ?25 and they are stick on, but still look original.

Anyway, give them a bash before they sell out.

I have just stuck on some new rear badges from awesome gti and they look great. I tried painting the old ones but I just was not happy with them - worth the money I reckon.

However, I could not find anyone who sold the badges with the studs in anymore (VW, GSF etc).

Dont think u can buy ones with studs anymore

Is the front GTI badge from Awesome stick on too?

I know, I search high and low for NEW original stud badges but with no luck.

To answer your question, yes, the front badge is also stick on. You may have your reservations about stick on but to be honest they look really natural, i.e. they don't look like they're stuck on!

Not sure if you're interested but you can also buy the campaign black side trim (which includes the thin black trim by the tailgate lock) from Awesome too! Although I haven't been able to find anywhere that stock the black trim that goes all round the tailgate. Any ideas?

Grant,

All the trim stickers can be got via TurbTechnicsMk1 (Somerset boys  :D ) - I've used thier full set and can rate it well.

Crazyquiff, don't worry about it mate. I read your post here before reading your reply in the other post (duh!).

I have sent sales@vturbo an email asking about the stickers.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated

The black pin stripe on the lower edge of the tailgate - was this on all MK1's with black side stripes? You just dont see em often!
