Rotisserie

Finally after months of neglect I am able to get back to the mk1 Rally Project
I was thinking of making a rotisserie style ?golf-holder? so I can easily play with the shell without straining myself too badly. You can see ths kind of thing I mean at http://www.prepfab.co.uk/Preparation/pages/mk2shell_jpg.htm (CAUTION extreme drool inspiring site).
My question is: Are the bumper mounting points on the front and rear chassis rails strong enough to take the weight of a stripped mk1??? It would be easy to make up a ?fork? style bracket to pick up the mounting points and use that as the cross piece?. Any thoughts guys???

I'm sure they would be strong enough for a stripped shell, but if you are schanging sills etc I'd think about additional supports.

You might think about coming of the front wishbone mounts and rear axle mounts.

Carbs I started off with your design (nice work by the way) but I wanted something that did not use the suspension points for mounting the rig. So while yours is way simpler (and cheaper!!) I think the "pig-on-a-spit-" style is more for me.

Thats a fair point! it worked best for me as I needed to cut out the rear panel etc and the front panel had a dent which needed work - so it worked easier for the body shop..

But! I built up a wee jig to get the frame off!!

Just took four bumper mounts welded in a box section cross member to joint the two sets of mounts (front and rear) then welded in two down tubes (out of box) and two smaller diamter tubes to slide up the inside (telescopic affair) the tubes were drilled in stages to accept a 17mm bolt

I can simply lift the car up slide the bolts in then unhook the jig/frame and mount axle, suspension, brake lines, fuel lines, tank etc and let her down again on her wheels!!

VERY CHEAP = more money for car bits! 8)
