I have never tried this method myself but I saw it in a magazine a few years back. Simply use a paint stripping heat gun hold about 7" away and apply the heat until the plastic starts to turn black again if you do it with care the you can get a original finish.Or you could try Autoglym plastic and vynil restore good luck!  :D

i've heard of someone using cooking oil?!

It depends how far gone your bumpers are i think. I'm just about to do mine which are very grey, nothing's worked so far (creams and back to black spray) so i'm going to take them off and spray them.

I'm now mk1less, ahhhhhhh!

Bumper re-spraying

Hi
I've heard of a product spray paint called "Plasti-kote" this has a chemical reaction to the plastic  which sticks the paint to it .  The Auto glym stuff is good but all these products wash off eventually.
I did buy some bumper spray paint and  preperation spray from halfords which was quite succesful.
It's worth seeing if a local paint shop could make you up an aerosol.
          All the best Ali

The Oils in veg oil, sunflower oil, cooking oil, and even peanut butter!! all bring the bumpers blackness back out, but only for a limited time.

The heatgun technique i believe has much longer lasting finish, but its easy to bugger up.

You can get textured paint too, like plasti-kote, already mentioned.

Alternatively, buy a new one!

The plastic bumpers on my Mk1 Polo where faded to white when I got her…I spent about 8 hours on each one, "massaging" them with Autoglym Bumper Care (the horrible green stuff). I'd do a section at a time, rubbing it in, leave it for an hour, then buffing it off with a microfibre cloth, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat…

Worth it in the end!

I have burned/scortched mine using a paint stripper hot air gun as above , works well . Top coated with Turtle Wax bumper black , cheap in ASDA !
