GTI Side stickers

Hi I have a an 81 GTI MK1 that was resprayed a few years ago , I've not had the chance to fit replacment stickers (strips) down the side of the doors etc.

Does anyone know if genuine ones are still available? or will a set from ebay be ok ?

Got mine from http://www.trimsport.freeserve.co.uk/

Excellent quality, they also do the tailgate decal which is very near the original.

Fast excellent service.

If you just want the side stripes you could try a local sign writers, I had the whole set done for my car ( thick and thin lower stripes, middle thin stripe and the tail gate stripe) and it was only a tenner, they cut them out while I waited - bargin :D

A tenner! Bargain indeed.. I bought the set from Trimsport..its the sides and tailgate one in the correct shade of Silver/grey for ?20. Then I had a sign writer afix them as to be honest if I got an air bubble or a wonky line its not worth the hassles to ruin the finishing touches. That cost me ?40 for about an hours work but its a factory finish. :D

I bought them off the ebay add and the thick strip has come out a few mm thinner than the trimsport set (as fitted to teh other side of my car!)

have contacted them and they have been very helpful, they assure me that theirs in teh correct spacing and the trimsport ones are slightly wrong as taken from a mk2?

No idea if this is correct, but they have offered to make me a custom set as well, as i might need a slightly thicker strip than intended.

Don't panic fitting these trims…thoroughly clean and rinse the surface (don't want any bits of grit under the trims) then wet the surface with a bucket of warm water with a dash of Fairy liquid in it ….and slide (float) the trims where you want them…then squeegee the water (and any air bubbles) out the sides of the trims.  Somewhere on this site I have added a posting that describes the process in detail…especially for doing the tailgate….check out the "search" facility

It sounds daft but the water will eventally evaporate without affecting the "stickyness" of the trims…and they will be the correct place.  What's more, if you gerrit totally wrong, you can peel 'em off and start over if you don't leave 'em too long.

Anyone wanting to get their old trims off, use wifey's hairdryer to soften them a bit at a time (but do it while she's at M&S buying that new lingerie that she asked for)

If I can find my ruler, I'll go measure the width and spacing of my (original) trims…they'll have shrunk a bit over 24yrs but they'll be close enough for country work.

Cheers
