going for the new look

Hey all, i have just signed up to the forums hoping to get some advice on getting my car looking fresh with new trimmings and touching up the odd bit of plastic.  I own a mk1 golf CL model 1.1 v.good condish (body) but i would like to have the odd bits like window sealing and wing mirrows looking abit newer, i will more than likely buy new wing mirrors etc but was wondering where the best place to get the carpet re-layed.   Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Welcome Gaz!

Shouldn't be too hard a job to fix the carpet back in yourself. I think the biggest issue is if you still have the underlay in the front footwells? This is quite thick and without it you'll probably think the carpet has shrunk a lot and wont get it to fit!

Your local GSF should still have the non-interior adjustable mirrors. They are ever so slightly different in profile to the originals but otherwise OK.

Pull the carpets (easy does it, they do tear), beat them like crazy then next time you get your house carpets shampooed get him to run over the car's too. Use carpet spray adhesive from your local carpet superstore to stick them back down. Worked fine for me.

G6EORGE has a posting lower down this "Restoration" forum (page 2) which refers to replacement moulded carpets……he refers you to Newton Commercial via the following link :

Check it out if you're looking to fit new carpets

I have had rubber mouldings for my Riley Elf from:

Classic Car Trim and Vehicle Trim by East Kent Trim Supplies

They tend to British cars but could maybe be "coerced" into providing replacement window/door seals although they stock lots of sections some of which may do the job
