Gap between front bonnet+top of wing corner and the grill

Hi guys!

Just bought a silver campaign, and the 1st thing I wanted to do when picking and bring her home was take the rediculious looking eyebrow trim that runs along the top of the grill, inbetween the grill and the bonnet
 :banghead:

And guess what, after taking it 0ff, its showing a large gap between the the grill and the bonnet and the top corner of the wings!!

Now, it seems that the grill is at the right position, can u tell me what needs altering, wings 0n either side??hmmmm

 :x help!

Wind the bonnet rubbers down slightly then adjust the bonnet catch , screw it in to pull down and your old eye brow spolier should disappear ...............

Chudd!

even if I d0 the winding d0wn 0n the rubber bung 0n either side and adjust the b0nnet catch l0ck, what ab0ut the either side wings?? they will sit higher whilst the fr0nt b0nnet may be sitting l0wer!!

The t0p c0rner 0f wings sit high ab0ve the grill, were the t0p head light trim meets the t0p c0rner 0f wings!! :banghead:

Bit hard to work out, any photos? Check that the wings have not had spacers fitted between them and where they bolt onto the inner wing. Might have been done to fit eyebrow spoiler in. If not possible that the car has had a new front panel fitted incorrectly i.e to low. Does the bottom of the front panel meet up with the wings?

I think there generally is a fair gap (by today's standards anyway!).
The fact that you have removed the eybrow has just exagerated it…

After I drove my Mk1 into the back of a Ford Mondeo it had that look to it.  You will know if this is what caused the problem because the headlight glass will be smashed and the front panel will be the wrong shape.

There will also be some irate fat guy shouting at you and asking if the car is a VW Polo - how I didn't punch him i'll never know.

You may find this problem is made worse if it happens on a Thursday night and you are getting married on the Tuesday.

Anyway, if this is the problem the fix is simple.  Remove the bonnet, hammer it somewhere near straight, apply filler and sand flat.  Prime it then apply Mars Red paint (this is where I encountered problems.  It would seem I had bought paint that was not infact Mars Red - silly me, thinking if it said Mars Red on the can it would be Mars Red paint inside the can).

What you do next is have an argument with somebody who parks right across your driveway and when asked to move (because they may get paint on their car) says "Well are you sure you should be doing that anyway?" - Yeah, pretty sure.  Using paint, outside.  Couldn;t be any better ventilated!

You will also need to buy a new headlamp and hammer and dolly the front pannel back to straight again.

When finished, refit the bonnet and say to yourself "That damn paint, if only it had have been the right colour!"

If this isn't the problem then please ignore all facts and advice given above - there is a chance they might not quite apply to your situation.

LMAO!

nski8 - maybe daft question but is the red grille surround fitted? Without this the gap may look exaggerated.

This shows the gap on mine… the corner gaps were the same with the old VW wings as it is with the new pattern ones:

I've found that the gap between the grille & bonnet is bigger on 4-lamp (Hella) grilles than it is on 2-lamp grilles.

I've also found that some pattern bonnets make the gap bigger (all other things being equal)

Why not go with the Kamei grille spoiler anyway? While they can look awful, the trick to making it look good is only buy a Kamei one (fits perfectly) and don't paint it the colour of the car (if it's black plastic, it looks like part of the grille, which is a better look than it looking like part of the bonnet)

I t00k the grill 0ff, and saw a gap n the wings that is b0lted t0 the inner wings, but n0t at the t0p, but m0re apart 0n the sides, especailly 0n the drivers wing! :(

Anyway, just cant see the spacing 0n the b0lts ab0ve b0lted t0 the inner wing bel0w!

And yes, the red trim in tact!
I d0nt see it all like this, because I parked my black 0n next t0 her, and there is a big difference in gap!!

May take her t0 the b0dysh0p and see what they can see!

s0rry, d0nt kn0w h0w t0 send pics!!
