Chassis dimensions anybody?

Can anybody help me with my latest mk1, the o/s wishbone broke, causing the driveshaft to flail about and the car to crash (hence me getting the car cheap!), which bent the chassis slightly around the front wishbone mounting. A friend with a body jig has looked and says he can straighten it no problem, but he requires some dimensions to work with. Any help with this would be much appreciated! :D

Nah, one of the dimensions is between the two sides, I spose it could be worked out from the centreline. To be honest, I want him to check the whole lot while on the jig, 25 years may have moved/bent something else and with the planned 16v engine, I'd rather the chassis be straight before I start! :D

Sorry, I thought you meant from the body to the wishpan mounting point.

I can understand you wanting it checking over though, have a look around VWVortex they have all the specs etc on there

If y'all know not a lot about fixing your motor, I would heartily recommend this one as well (its my fav.).  As it says on the tin….

Hi, i have exaclty the same probelm. Also, im totally new to this forum and new to being a VW owner. I have a new mk1 Cabriolet, with some mild front end damaged. I have her completelty stripped down and going to restore. However i want to send out to get the chassis checked and / or straightened. Most shops with jigs are coming back saying they dont have dimensions so will really just have to base the dims off the other side. however i dont know the "other" side is good obad so want to have some sort of ref numbers. I have the bentley manual and numers threads point to that info being in the manual but i cannot find it anywhere. If anyone can help or send me ot the page number or section or knows the information i would appreciate it. Cant move forward until i get the info and shes looking rather sad in bits in my garage. Any help would be super appreciated!!

Thats Awesome!! Thanks Briano1234!!! I assume most of the chassis dims are same for mk1 Cabriolet? also mine is a LHD, not sure if that makes any difference or not? I have the bentley cabriolet service manual, Maybe different to the tin top version manual? Where was this info located? I don't see anything like this in my manual. Thanks again!

It was located on this web site: https://reflectionsandshadows.com/a1-tech/

Group 5 Body.  IIRC I have seen it in my Original Bentley that covers the Golf/Rabbit up to 1979.  Due to Life Happening when other plans are made I am unable to get to my manuals right now…maybe in a couple of weeks…But I do know where I can find it…when I need and am able to…
