Which Cambelt Kit?

Post

I'll be doing some engine work this year so might as well do the cambelt for what it's worth (DX Engine code) - Whats the recommended make to go for?

I was going to say I've used Conti Belts before with no issue - Depending on the price I think i'll check Genuine for what it's worth!

VW belt is not that expensive and the one I bought also came in a vacuum pack.
It's a easier for me to get a Conti belt else where and delivered to my door for free than go to VW, pay and they order one, go back and pick it up in a day or 2 as my local VW dealer is a 25 mile round trip.

If yours is not local it maybe worth a phone call as they don't usually keep them in stock. If they start talking about fitting a new water pump at the same time as cambelt  walk away as they don't know about old VW's and referring to a newer car!

Well the VW Belt is around £25 and the Tensioner around £35 (From TPS!) Ouch!

I guess that was why I only bought one and I only bought a cambelt and not the tensioner from VW, it was a long time ago.

In fact, I just found this.. It says Genuine VAG cambelt kit.. £30 +postage.

Not bad to be fair.. If it does turn out to be genuine. Think I'll go for one.
