Torque wrench for engine rebuild

Recommendations

I'm going to have a go at rebuilding my old original engine that's been sat in the garage for the last 10 years so I can get matching numbers back in the golf. 

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a decent mid priced (£50) torque wrench that's supplied calibrated ?

I have 3 different ones.  One is 1/2" drive that I use for everything I torque that needs large ft/lbs or NM and goes up to 250 ft/lbs.  I think it cost me 50 USD about 20 years ago.  I have a 1/4 drive inch pounds, it is used for most radiator fitting and valve cover gaskets as it is usually using in/lbs…

So I usually set the wrench, then test it on the tool and adjust it if needed to the proper torgue, if it is under by a little like 86 instead of 87 in/lbs I usually leave it alone.

Used a wall mounted device back in the 70's on aircraft, that had a needle that you used the torque wrench on it and the needle stayed at the breaking level the wrench was clicking at.  Or on a dial wrench you could see where the needle on the wall was in comparison to your needle on the wrench…

The problem with calibrating them is that are you sure they really did calibration?  Our torque wall gauge was calibrated every month.

I am not sure calibration is massively critical in a DIY setting - its more for tools which get a lot of use and wear over time. I would imagine a reasonable torque wrench be accurate enough upon purchase and stay more/less like that.

I too have two torque wrenches - a 1/2" drive one for the big stuff and a smaller, 3/8" that goes down to (I think….) 8Nm or thereabouts. Obviously a 1/2" and 1/4" might do it too, depends on the ranges. 3/8" is handy because a lot of sockets are that size anyway these days. I think mine is a Halford professional one, bought it ages ago.
