Static timing marks on a DX engine?

Hi all,

I have just changed the cam belt and tensioner on my cabrio and reset the distributor drive shaft which was 180 degrees out of phase. Of course the plug leads were all in the wrong postions on the cap so I have changed those around too.

My question is how do I identify the correct static timing marks on the flywheel so I can set the dizzy in appoximately the right place as I will not have access to my strobe for a few weeks.

Cheers

David

I could never find any useful marks on the flywheel, despite referring to Haynes, and even flywheels lying around out of the car :dontknow:

I use the mark on the crank pulley for the alternator/water pump belt.

When this mark is aligned with the arrow on the lower cam-belt cover, the timing is 6 degrees BTDC and, if the intermediate shaft is correctly timed too, the rotor arm should be roughly pointing at the socket for the no.1 HT lead on the distributor cap.
