Here is a more useful answer….
The GTI doesn't have a choke as such.
To richen the mixture at cold start there is a 5th injector called the cold start injector (CSI).
This is controlled by the Thermo time switch that allows the CSI to operate for about 8secs on cold start.
The other item that comes into play once started is the Aux Air Valve (AAV). This allows extra air past the throttle to keep the revs up until warm.
Voltages can be checked to see if the CSI control is working correctly and by removing the CSI to see if it is firing in cold start. There is a rubber pipe from the AAV. Once started this can be squeezed with pliers - if the revs drop - ok. When warm do again if revs stay the same - ok.

Also the Warm Up regulator allows extra fuel into the engine.
There is so much discussion on this already
Search the forum under Aux air valve, warm up reg (WUR), fuel pressure regulator, control pressure.
You should find your answer!
