Mk3 block engine number identification

Which block and where is number?

Hi guys,

I have researched a fair amount but still can not find the information I need. My golf has a mk 3 tall block engine of I'm correct. I bought the car with it already fitted.

My insurance need the engine number which I can't find anywhere on the front? I've found a casting number which will maybe identify the block but is the engine number on the rear?

I have the original engine and as expected and the engine number is on the fron on this but clearly not on the car in the engine.

Pic attached shows the block casting number?

Any help much appreciated 5625EC4C-9DB4-418C-921E-0653ABE33962.jpeg

i know that on my dubs over the years the block number was a stamp on the rear side under the head. and next to tranny under the freeze plugs.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

The engine no is stamped on not cast. Mk3 2l tall blocks are either 2e or agg which has crank sensor

Thanks. I didn't know if the casting would identify the block but either way still need the serial number.

Thanks.

Should be on the front above the breather in same place as the mk1. Has it been painted over?
