Mk1 1600 and Mk1 1800 metering heads are different. Mk1 1800 and Mk2 1800 metering heads are the same.

Old Xr3i used the kjet metering head also, you may possibly be able to source one from there.

1600 metering head is a different shape internally, which means it will fuel more at higher revs for a given airflow. This is due to the different VW of the engines, and also a different focus on the performance area (in particular, VW probably wanted to preserve some reasonable fuel economy). An 1800 metering head on a 1600 would give a definite performance decrease - but it would be difficult to notice it unless you did back-back timed runs or used a dyno to measure it. Of course there's other ways to 'work around' the decrease too, to mitigate it. You can't detect it without tools unless you hit the lean-misfire limit (or rich misfire limit) when driving the car.

gotcha, cheers for that paul…

ive noticed no performance decrease (but like you say its going to be unnoticable under normal drivnig conditions) and to be honest i rarely thrash the car anyway so its no  big deal, ill just make sure i get another 1600gti one at some point down the line

Its because the 1600 peaks its revs higher than the 1800 between 5 to 6 thousand rather than 3 to 4 thousand...if im right..

I have the same issue with mine 1.6 GTI, and my metering head is also leaking.

I do have a Spare Mk2 1.8 GTI 16v Engine, do you know if the metering head will fit??

Thanks
