Loom plugs

Post

Hi

Looking for detail diagram or pics of what each plug on the loom is for or connects too.

As I am converting 1.8 8v dx to twin 40s would like to know what plugs I will not need and what I will.

Thank you in advance.

The only things you won't need are the ones that connect to the carb. I'm assuming you're replacing the original Pierberg carb?

The wires you'll not be needing come from the drivers side corner of the bay and can just be cable ties out of the way under the brake linkage bit or down by the fuel lines.

Thank you Ian. No replacing the injection side to twin 40 on my gti. Engine and loom are out as I obtained them separately to the shell. I want to have the loom neat and tidy before it goes in. So like to know what plugs are what. Rather then trial an error if poss.

Then the Haynes or Bentley are going to become your intimate friend… :)

The ETKA may help as they have the looms pictured in the electric section…

here is the link to the 88 Cabriolet.

With those pictures you can easily sort it about.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

what you need is this:
https://clubgti.com/forums/index.php?threads/fusebox-faq.219775/

you only mess with the engine loom, split all the plastic covering off it and follow all the wiring from the fusebox.

pretty much only wiring you need is the stuff to the fusebox itself, for wipers, dash sensors etc. if its CE1 type fusebox theres a brown/white and green/black or yellow separate from fusebox which you also keep for the clocks.

the 42/43 relay is for coolant level wearnign, keep it if you weant it to work or remove if you dont. the yellow/red wire from fusebox to sensor in engine bay needs to be retained, the relay is tapped to that just snip off and tape.

if its a late one there will be a 2nd relay for idle valve, that can go too
