KJet Engine Leaking Crank Seal?

Post

Hi Guys,

I have a Kjet 1.8 Gti in my T25 Campervan and noticed some oil seems to be making a bit of a mess on the block. I think this is the front crank seal?

Is this an easy job to replace or is it an engine out job?

Cheers

That looks more to be a Valve cover seal than a crank case seal.

While the crank seal doesn't usually spray upwards.

Removing the lower timing cover would tell for sure, and
replacing it on the car is doable.

Put the car in time.
Remove the Crank Pulleys.
Remove the lower timing cover.
Remove the timing belt.
Remove the Crank to timing belt gear.
Using a hook tool pry the old seal out.

Clean the Crank with emory cloth or fine wet and dry paper, and oil.

Clean the seal area of the lower crank seal cover, the lower crank seal is in a metal plate that unbolts but you don;t have to unbolt it  IIRC 5 bolts 10mm on the cover and 2 on the pan, and the cover can come loose.

When refitting the seal I find that a trip to my local home improvement store and go to the pipe section and get a PVC pipe connector that is proper size for the seal to assist you in the installation.

ie:
This is a Torque convertor seal but you get the "Drift".

Hint: easiest way to remove the crank bolt, is to place a socket and breaker bar on it, use a thick wall pipe to wedge the wrench to the ground, then "Burp" the starter.
Before removing the bolt, tighten slightly and place the engine in time.  Then proceed with the R & R.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
