FUEL PUMP 2 SPEEDS

Post

Hi,

Im back after years off the forum, due to sheer lack of money my mk1 has been off the road for about 3 years!!!! It has been parked up and I have let the car down a bit really. Got some cash now and want to get it back on the road and restored to a great spec.

My question is does the fuel pump have 2 speeds? it is really noisy and seems to rev, for want of a better word, up and down. At the same time the rev meter on the dash goes up and down as well. . It doesn't feel good at all. I remember replacing it years ago with one i bought off here but it just doesn't feel right and frankly never has. Do i just need to replace it? Its off for an MOT on Wednesday so will see what else i have to do but just thought I would ask the question. I did try searching but couldn't find a similar problem.

Thanks for any help.

Alex

no it should be constant, the fact the fuel level also plays up suggests a wiring issue rather than fuel pump. check your battery voltages engine off and engine on, make sure its steady

Thanks for that. Do I just stick the voltmeter on positive and negative and see what the readings are? Alex
