Engine reconditioning costs?

I am going looking for quotes tomorrow for my engine to be roconditioned/rebuilt.

Has anybody paid to do this and if so how much?

A block file is missing: .......look at http://www.bigboystoys-uk.com . You can pick up an exchange engine for about ?500 . They are FER units so will be good . At that price and with a guarantee i would hand yours over and walk away with a new one . I was speaking to someone at vw before christmas and just in general chat they said a engine rebuild would cost around ?1000 - ?1500, ouch!

do it yourself - rebuild kits dont cost that much compared to those prices!

i was thinking about doing it myself, but at just 18 years old, and studying law in glasgow most of the year, I really dont know if I will have time. Plus I would love to have the car for the summer.

I think I have found a guy who is going to bore out the cylinders (not more than 1800cc) and will fully refurb the block, but he needs to see if the block has not been damaged by the lack of oil pressure and the big ends having gone.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Rebuild head,port polish,new valves guides and seats,match port
manifolds ?300
Clutch ?65
Cables gaskets and sundries ?150
Wow soon starts to add up even DIY 8O  :roll:

can I ask who is doing your rebore?

buy a use 2.0l 8v bottom end more power loads cheaper!!

I would - but I'm restoring the car trying to keep as much as I can that come with the car off production line….
