if its a later 1.6 carb then yes, will give a nice boost.

It wont fit the 1.6 GTI engine, but you say it has hydraulic tappets so it wont be one of those ;)

Is it a problem if my head has only 4 caps to hold the camshaft? It the 1.8 head it got 5....

4 caps means hydro head, 5 caps means solid lifter head. so that means the 1,8 cam wont fit your engine.

you need a hydro cam from a later 1.8 with 4 cam caps same as yours. forgot to mention that sorry :(

Wait wait wait
I read that only in 1987 and maybe 1988 vw manifactured 4 cap head
The lifters are by numbers of holes in the head (1 or 2) and are specific to fit the block
No?

the changeover from solid to hydro was 1987ish :)

so if you have a hydro head with 4 caps, you need a post-87 GTI camshaft from a MK2 EV or PB engine, plus later cabrio/scirocco DX amongst others.

best way to be sure is count the cam caps, 4 = hydro, 5 = solid
