Advice needed please (Timing belt cover removal)

Hi folks.

Can anyone tell me how the hell the top timing belt cover comes off?

I have a 1985 1.6 auto Cab.

I am trying to change the rocker cover gasgit and have removed the rocker cover bolts and undone the hex bolt in the middle of the timing belt cover.

The timing belt cover is still quite solid and I cant see any other nuts/bolts which need to come out.

Any ideas please?

someone hasn't silliconed it have they? should just be the 8 rocker nuts?? there is a bolt on the side securing the timing cover as well have you released that?

Hi Blans

Thanks for your post.

Yes I've undone the hex nut on the side as u described in section 5. However, mine is loose and turning but wont come right out. Ive also undone the all the rocker cover nuts.

The rest of the upper case seems really tight like something else needs to be undone.

I see from your picture that that isnt so.

My next move is to try a bit of brute force.

Ok, its all sorted now.

When undoing the centre hex bolt, the inner bolt came undone instead of the outer bolt meaning the top cover would not come out.

This was over come by prizing the top cover outwards and placing a spanner through the gap to hold the inner nut still whilst undoing the outer.

Now I've just got to try to rectify the constant misfiring at low revs.
