Driveshaft flange oil seals

Post

I was just wondering if anyone has encountered the gearbox driveshaft flange oilseals part number 020 301 189L. I ordered new oil seals but when they arrived they were  10 × 65.2 × 50. These were too thick. The seals that I require are 7 × 65.2 × 50 as I couldnt get the circlip onto the end of the drive shaft with the 10mm seals.
So basically Im looking for help to track down thinner seals, i.e. 7mm ones

Have you looked at simplybearings.co.uk?

They do seals by size, I have used them at work, fast delivery.

I found getting the circlips back on is a right fiddle job. The 1st time I did it I screwed my flange tool to far in the flange and it was stopping the flange going far enough in to fit the circlip.

Unfortunately I've now removed the gearbox for a second time as the flanges were so tight in against the oil seals that the friction has started wearing the seals away and they were leaking really badly.

Flange Types

strange you needing a 7mm seal? Is something a miss?

Yes I know about the different flanges. That was the size of the flanges that I removed. The ones that had the code I mentioned earlier.

What is the code of the gearbox with the different size flanges?

Did it come out of an British Leyland Montego for similar as they used VW gearboxes but I believe you had to shave a little of the flanges to get them to fit as I think that what was done to my Mk1 Scirocco gearbox back in the 90's as that has a gearbox out of an MG Montego.

Not sure where the box originated from to be honest.
Never realised that BL used VW boxes either.
Ive found the correct driveshaft flange oil seals at simplybearings, thanks to mk1allan
