256 Front Brake set up

Post

Hi everyone

I just bought some 256 Callipers and carriers from a Mk2 16v to uprate my front brakes, but I've just been told the carriers won't fit the Mk1 hub. I've seen somewhere that Scirocco 16v carriers fit well, would I be able to buy these and use the Mk2 16v callipers together? Do they actually fit?

If anyone has any suggestions or any 256 set ups for sale I'd be interested.

Thanks

Mk2 scirocco 16v are very hard to find, VW only imported about 16 in to the UK so it may be tricky find a set…..

I think I have seen re manufactured ones on e-bay?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Ah yeah that could be tricky, I'm open to remanufactured ones though.

Would you have a link to any mate?

I found some but not sure if they'd be the right ones as they don't know the part number.

Would these work?

Would the Audi 80 Part Number be 443 615 125 F?

Ha posted at the same time!

is 853 615 125 the scirocco? and 443 615 125 Audi 80?

the audi one you want is the same part number, the 443 one looks to be for a slightly different setup fitted from 87 onwards 256mmx22mm vs 256x20 for the scirocco 16v and early 80 carriers.

that being said, they may still fit? but looking at it the bearing carriers for the 443 part differ as well after 87 so they may not. No Audi expert I'm afraid!

I hear rumours of a direct fit MK1 carrier for 280mm brakes, off the beefy engine audi quattro. but they seem to be so rare and expensive no-one can ever get hold of any to try

Thanks for the input guys.

I did check out the brake setup on here but it's going for a bit much as it's a full set up and I've already got everything bar the carriers.

Would anyone know if these carriers would do? They say similar to 853 615 125 so I guess they're remanufactured on this?
