Twin 40's fuel setup

Post

I'm currently collecting parts for my twin 40 setup on my 1.3 polo GT engine and I'm unsure what to do in terms of fuel pumps and fuel lines.

Currently my engine has the carb fuel lines which are 6mm and also it has a single lift pump in the tank supplying my carb. When I move to twin 40's I was planning on running an additional facet pump to up the pressure.
But which facet should I go for?
Do I need to increase the fuel line diameter to 8mm as used on the big block engines?
Will I need a regulator up by the 40's in the bay? And will this regulator use the return line back to the tank?

And for the wiring, can I just run an additional wire from my lift pump down to the facet pump or will I need to run a thicker wire from the fusebox due to more current being drawn?

Cheers,
Matt

Id run a seperate wire for the facet myself and you will need a reg for them, there is no return line so block yours off or remove it.

Cheers Brad,
Which pump will be best, I was going to go for the small square one but I've seen people use the bigger cylindrical one for 40's?

Yeah I'll run a new wire just to play it safe then

Any idea on the importance of using 8mm fuel pipe?

Cheers

I would run them off a kjet fuel relay, otherwise the pump wont cut out if you crash. what fusebox is it later ce1 blade or early ceramic type fusebox?

I've already got a kjet relay wired in which is giving power to my lift pump, and its the ce1 fuesebox

perfecto, if it does actually have a proper lift pump this may be enough to drive the twin 40s without the need for an external fuel pump

Its only one from a mk2 polo so im not quite sure it'll be enough, it runs my pierburg carb alright but I dont want any fuel starvation problems

ah so it was a carby before? if so its not a pump at all just a basic level sender with outlets on the top, the fuel pump is on the engine itself :)

No it's a polo GT engine with my original carb on it so I fitted the lift pump to replace the mechanical pump

I see, you're probably right to not risk the lifter on its own, if you used decent wire to power the lifter just tap your new facet into it :)
