I'm having my engine bay painted as we speak,
I'm doing a conversion and want to protect the firewall from the heat it's going to get from abuse.
What's people using? I want it to look neat and tidy.
Cheers

On my Mk 2 golf I used a sheet of stainless. i tried to show you a photo but could not upload. I am doing a mk 1 20v conversion now and will be doing something similar. A local firm will bend it for me to fit against the bulkhead, a hole for the heater pipes etc and i intend to have a piece either folded on it or bolted on separately to protect the steering column gaiter. On the mk 2 i used a 6mm bolt through the bulkhead, then a nut, then the stainless and then another nut as it works better slightly off the paint. the bottom will be bolted on behind the steering rack and then i want to make a full tunnel under to protect from the exhaust as the gear change is now inside. Good luck, Steve

Well I've ended up going down the route of heat reflective sound proofing that sticks to the bulkhead, majority of the firewall won't be seen anyway so I'll hot air gun it on to iron out the creases and hopefully that will sort it as for the steering boot I'm thinking of a soldering mat modified with poppers to go round that
