staying grey gti resto 1983

hi im tony been on the mk1 form for a few months now i got a 1983 gti iv'e never removed even a bulb out of my own cars until now my build begun here the oe look
stripped the seats out red striped repairing drivers seat new tilt cable 1 new bolster
removed rear belts and speaker pod cleaned up now look amazing now used crinckle paint and satin black
removed vdo gage pod cleaned up and used same method as above really dose look brand new
removed rear door cards cleaned up look oe brand new
removed momo steering wheel replaced with a 4 button altho off a mk2 vgc
removed sun visors cleaned up look oe brand new
all oe badges removed waiting for the recon brushed metal sticker pack today got boot sticks trim and lower sticker trim gti
removed wiper arms sanded down then satin black again looks good well chuff
found the quad grill in car cleaned an sprayed looks mint and dish washed hella head lights clean now lol
now my/garage need to do list
new door card black gti
new passenger window sills
seat repair drivers side tilt cable and lower plastic cover
rear seat piping come lose repair
new roof lining and fitting
need new carpets and sound dens matts and fitting has nun so if ive missed soming let me no ie clips
need drivers side head light surround
need red grill trim
need new passenger sills welded
respray and repair body get rid of the aerial sticking out ma roof need dished pslots got some ronals with treds any 1
engine is a kr with webber twin 45s carbs goin to cmf in reading
refirb rear drums or go disk new brake
need new drivers wing an pass wing them pesky arch covers hid a cover up job some one cut both sides mite av been rust or cut to stop rubbing i think that will be anuff to keep me going im going put up picks to keep all u magpies happy with shiny stuff

may take to body shop very soon all arches are cutup worried the rear panel mite need replacing swan tail mite go nicely if its got to go

Hi Tony,
This project sounds like it's all going to plan, do you have any photos for us all to have a look at. You might even give us all a few tips on how to do ours. I'm currently stripping Goly the golf ready for restoration. Keep the updates coming and good on you for getting your hands dirty.

Thanks just getting stuck in on the bits i can do learning as i go along hope the glory strip is a good one mine showed me its dirty parts an more dirty bits lol will get picks up tomoz just got the brushed metal recon sticker for the badges an just got the satin lacer to finish it off so will be nice few pics plan to do the lower dash the same as the speaker pods will look mint hopefully

Think they are 10j on the back there I know Jon had to shorten his rear axle to get the wheels to fit!

Good news cars having all body work and respray the owner of the garage is a vw love tell me a flat colour will look the best we talked about nubus grey which sounds a little unplaned but will get some test sprays up

Well we ended up picking 3 cream light primer grey or white all pre 1990s dam its hard to pick

Go for grey - will look wicked, especially if you go for something bold like a red interior…

I thought you meant "light Primer Grey", rather than primer or grey!
If it is a gloss light grey - go with that.
We have a fabia "reaction" in that sort of colour and I love it. Gets nice comments as it is a little different.

yea i was on about that kind of grey it was a tad darker shows up nice and with the decals on it small black bumpers and arch trims will set it off nicely

there was a car that got car of the mouth that was suzki grey if yoy can find it it like the one u got there but its more flat dont want the paint to look new school if you know how to find the picks have a look

i wonder if they would fit a mk1 split them and find 1"lip fronts and 2"back does any1 know if you can buy the right lips to make them wider ??
