storing up for the winter
i have a mk1 cabrio which is going to be stored for the winter. theres no point in me driving it throughout winter as it has holes in the roof and i get wet! lol
anyway, was wondering how best to store it, i dont have a garage so should i leave it as it is or put a cover over it? or will the cover do more damage?
anyone else storing up for the winter?
any help apreciated.

give the car a full service before you store it, new oil etc as you dont want old oil in there festering, also if you can make sure the cars started every so often to keep things from skicking and on the very dry un salted days have a spin round the block to stop the tyres going flat at the bottom (or sit the car on axel stands).
make sure the car is washed and polished before you put the cover on as any grit will make a nice mess as the wind blows the cover around.
also disconnect the battery too, as this will help prevent rusting and it discharging.

Get the best cover you can afford. Cheaper ones aren't necessarily breathable, and from experience they can cause paint to blister from holding damp beneath them. You can get nice breathable lined ones (fabric lining to protect paint) for around ?100, check out classic car mags as most classic car owners are storing their cars around now too.

Providing your garage don't leak all you need is a cloth cover to stop the dust gathering no need for waterproof one could get condensation under it even the breathable ones take longer for the condensation to dry away.
best advise seen on this thread is the clean and polish before storing and battery disconnection.

when mines wrapped up for winter in the garage i just use a couple of old bed sheets that have been freshly washed.
also another thing to keep in mind is that fuel goes off, but with the mk1 having a metal tank i would brim the fuel tank to stop any moisture in there rusting the tank from the inside out.
another tip i will be using is coat you nice alloys in vasaline, as this will hep protect them from the moisture and salt and grime.

Also if your storing it for a long period of time leave your handbrake off, and put some bricks under the wheels.
