Mars Red Campaign

So i have finally managed to get through all the paper work and have my MK1 registered for the roads here on the Isle of Man.

I paid ?4k for it in march and have since fitted the following items so she now drives like new.. ish.

New dampers all round
Front strut tops
New Front wishbones, bottom joints and rubbers
Anti Roll Bar rubbers
Track rod ends
New discs, pads and shoes
Brake fluid change
Oil and filter change
Rear S/S strut brace

The paint work / car is totally original so does have a few marks here and there but adds to the charm i think!

So happy with it now!

Its tricky with regards to what they are worth isnt it!? I think i paid top money for mine but its original and in excellent condition (68k miles)..

Think i may have seen that one around. Went past work one lunch time a couple of weeks ago down by the boat port and the missus laughed at me as i stop talking and just watched it!

Don't use it as a daily driver, you'll get stone chips, scratches etc 8O

I know Kriss, i am managing to only take her to work once a week if the weather is fine! lol And i have only used her twice during TT week as there are SO many bikes over this year its bedlam on the roads. But on the mountian its like a race track and the new suspension etc makes her handle like a dream!

NO please drive it around more so that i ca see it and dream what mine will look like when its finished!

Ps. Dont suppose you want any spare parts do you?

Thanks for the offer but at present i dont need any spares, just have a problem with a sensor that doesnt close when its warmed up so going to buy a new one.

Just have rear seatbelts, shelf, passenger seat and rear seats that i am planning to take to the tip as they are not required and i dont have space to store them so wondered if you may want them.

Are there any plans for a manx meet up at some point in the future do you know?

IS the black side bolster material on the front seat any good?

With regards to a meet, so far one member is keen to meet but i think he was going away on a trip to "the ring" and im not sure if he is home yet. I texted him a while back but had gone to the pub when he tried calling me.

I did post in the members section that i was keen to help out with a manx branch, there are quite a few golf nuts on the IOM and it would be great to get us all together… my wife is getting bored of hearing me go on about it so id love to talk to anyone who likes mk1s  :roll: lol

Will go and have a look tomorrow as just off to the tent for the last time Should be ok though but thin kmay be slightly faded.

I know of a couple of other mk1's so should be enough for a reasonable meetup at somepoint!

Yes,i am still here,We are off to the Nurburgring tomorrow afternoon.I will bring some pics back for u to look at if u want to finally meet up.Sorry i was so late calling u back tom but i had a massive hangover on.Still want to come and see the golf if its OK!Im staying over at my mates in Germany for a week after the ring to try and find more bits for my mk1,i need a passenger door for my lhd mk1(so a drivers on a rhd)The original isnt too bad but there is an awkward bit of rust on the bottom so id rather fit a perfect one so to eliminate all the rust.I also have tons of bits kicking around if anyone need owt?Or text us when im in germany and i will see what i can do.My mates got an excellent nick mk1 he got off an old deer back in germany,he came over for tt and asked me if i wanted it as its been lying in another mates barn for 3yrs,i want to bring it back so bad but its quite involved.Anyway,keep in touch.

Hey, sorry for taking time. Seat fabric looked ok just a bit faded. Your more than welcome to it if you want it as i just dont have space to keep it and at the moment its just sitting in the back of the car which is kinda getting in the way!

The trip to germany sounds great! as does the mk1 your mate has! as you say it will be a right pain to get it back but i am sure it wouldbe worth it.

Give me a shout when you get back and we can get a meet together.

I have plenty of space in a barn so would be well happy to take the seat of your hands.. can never have enough spares for a golf! lol

So, im really tempted to buy a new s/s exhaust manifold for my mk1.. given its total originality at present what is everyones views on this?

Is it violating her?
