Settling In
Hi all. Having some tick over issues as per video. It used to be when only cold but now when at temperature.

I can't get the video to work on my phone or computer but a a bit more info may be helpful eg..
When was the car last serviced and what was done/changed in the service? (new fuel filter, HT leads, spark plugs, dissy cap, rotor arm etc….)
How long has this been happening?
Checked fuel filler neck for rust holes, checked inside fuel tank at fuel pick up.
I don't know if your car is fuel injection or carb, if fuel injection lift pump in fuel tank ok?
If fuel injection common problem for idle screw to work it's way lose as rubber O ring goes hard and the anti stall device keeping the car ticking over.

Many thanks for the response. Not sure what is going on with video.
In essence on tick over in a very consistent rhythm it goes from 300 to 1100 rpm , up and down which sometimes as I come to a stop makes the car stall.
I have only had the car for less than a year and it has had plugs points and cap changed. Fuel filter not as yet which was going to be my next step as it seems fuel related.
Car is fuel injection 1.8 8v.
I will have a look for any signs of rust etc when I get a chance.
I have fiddled with idle screw as I thought that straight away. And idle raises. If I set idle to 1200 then it's fine but clearly not ideal.
It is obviously auto choke but not sure if it's something that can go wrong.
Anything else that you think of or advice would be great.

You are adjusting the idle screw on the back of the throttle body?
It does sound like the anti stall device is keeping the car running if the idle speed is going up and down all the time.
You may have an air leak in 1 of the rubber pipes?
Have a look at this thread as I've posted up pictures of my old and new o ring on the idle screw.

What petrol are you using, super unleaded or normal unleaded?
Your video may play when I get home as I'm "at work" and alot stuff is filter on the works network.
It does sound like the anti stall device is keeping the car running if the idle speed is going up and down all the time.

I will go and check screw now.
I am currently using super unleaded, will this make a difference.
Hopefully not tooth out. But will have a look. I have a v5 ready to drop in at some point so this may be the time.

Super unleaded is the best fuel for a GTi.
