I have drained the oil for an oil change and ,as I already knew that the thread in my sump was iffy I went armed with a tap to clean out the threads only to find that there appears to already be a helicoil in the thread that looks like it's coming loose! I was going to get a 2nd hand original sump but found these on Claasic VW and wondered of your thoughts! It seems good value but I wondered about the quality as it's a pattern part.

Was that the front 2 on the block under the crank or the rear two on the bock between the bell housing and the sump pan.
The reason that I ask is that the front two and the rear two screw into aluminium easy to strip the rears near the tranny.
They only require 20Nm, and if you don't use a 6pt 1/4 drive short socket and a wobble extension it is very easy to cross thread them.
if it was on the sides of the engine that is the steel bolt in to the cast iron block, and a new helicoil may be required.
But when that happened to me, It was the rear engine seal carrier and I dropped the transmission to replace it.

Thanks for the reply Briano, it's the drain plug thread that's stripped not any of the threads in the block.

Looks like a good quality steel sump and comes with everything you need. I'd use one for sure.
Not like modern 20vt aftermarket ally sumps, I've cut through harder loaves of bread.

In that case have a go for it, seems cost effective.
I usually use black Ultra RTV on the under side head of the oil pan plug bolt to keep it from dripping.

I bought a Febi sump over 2 years ago for my daily drive and it's been good.
Got one from here, comes with the better rubber gasket and new sump plug.
They do sell on eBay as well.

They can be a pain to fit as access to the 2 bolts near the gearbox is a nightmare, some people have fitted Allen key bolts in there and use a ball end Allen key to do the bolts up, you do have to be careful that end as the bolts screw in to aluminium which is soft so easy to cross thread.
